Starlight Music Academy (SMA) is a non-profit organisation that provides the community with a complete youth program interested in music and dance. Since 1997 Starlight Music Academy has been pioneering programmes to develop individuals interested in succeeding in the music industry. This included a range of music training and mentoring programmes such as rap, vocal, choir, studio production, dance, drama, fashion and image styling seminars. Over 700 local young people have directly benefited as a result of Starlight’s services and gained relevant experience and skills that will enable them to become more employable and embark on positive life choices. SMA Youth Centre continues to provide quality facilities and professional services in music, dance and art. The need for youth programs is validated and magnified
by information that attributes long-term value to participants in these
programs. The benefit of the organisation would be to offer young people
support and to get them more involved in their local community. The
organisation will be encouraging young people from the local community
to make maximum use of the Centre, its resources and expertise. Research
indicates the economic, social and personal value of “investing” in
the lives of young people in a positive and constructive manner avoids
the social and penal system costs that may otherwise later occur.
Our aim is to make this experience affordable and
available for all interested parties. This is done through a series
of successful fund raising activities and a solid financial approach
to managing these resources. Ongoing efforts are in place to continue
to improve the quality and range of programmes offered. The success
of these efforts has been documented through interviews with students
who have attended and completed the programs at the centre and confirm
the positive perception of the training outcomes.
