Who are we
Starlight Music Academy (SMA) is a not-for-profit organisation operating in very challengin times in London. We are concerned about issues such as young people being murdered on the streets of London and place ourselves at the forefront of working with the groups most affected to provide diversionary activities and fun learning programmes. SMA also aim to try and help alleviate poverty by teaching young people enterprise to prevent worklessness, crime and anti-social behaviour by providing a positive, creative and stimulative learning environment with music related workshops for young people. These workshops are designed to nurture and develop self confidence and contribute towards young people making informed choices about their future. Towards this aim SMA delivers its programmes in a safe and supportive learning environment that stimulates the development of young people’s creative skills in music and the performing arts as well as equips them with the motivation needed to consider further training at college or university or enter the creative arts sector. The skills gained through SMA workshops are transferable basic skills which increases the confidence levels needed for young people to succeed in formal settings. To young people, SMA programmes are popular, exciting and varied. They can identify with the workshop leaders and mentors who work with them formally and informally on a one to one basis to help improve self-confidence through the realisation of their creative talent and potential.
