Job Description
Key Purpose of the job:
1. To work alongside and under the management of the Starlight Board of Trustees and designated members of the team
2. Primary duties will be to lead in the development of and provide support for the Starlight Music Academy Youth Leadership Programme by working with key strategic partners and ensuring project aims and targets are met.
3. To develop and maintain contact with local schools, colleges, universities, Pupil Referral Units, Connexions, and other agencies working with young people to ensure that they are aware of the Leadership programme, workshops and events taking place at Starlight to ensure maximum participation amongst the target group.
Main duties and responsibilities
1. To establish a unique working relationship with two (2) Southwark secondary schools and two (2) Southwark primary schools
2. To establish a unique relationship with two (2) Lambeth secondary schools and two (2) Lambeth primary schools
3. To promote SMA Youth Leaders events to schools and arrange interviews and presentations for assemblies about the project and work of SMA.
4. To identify and specific needs of school in the are of pupil leadership development and report these back to the SMA manager
5. To maintain the involvement of a core group of young people involved in the development of the Starlight Youth Leadership programme
6. To work in partnership with and maintain a dialog with officers of the Black Training and Enterprise Group and input in the development of the leadership programme and the involvement of REACH role models in events
7. To work in partnership with BBI – Black Business Initiative and ensure access to and involvement of their young entrepreneurs at SMA Leadership events
8. To explore business sponsorship opportunities for the Motivational World Class Youth Leadership events
9. To help identify 150 young people from across local schools who can benefit from and participate in the Youth Leadership events and those who can act as role models / motivational speakers at these events
10. To liaise with schools and agree venue for workshops
11. To liaise with BETEG and ensure engagement of REACH role models in the planning and to help identify the most suitable REACH role models for each event
12. To secure booking of REACH Role models for workshops and motivational event
13. To agree theme, programme and workshop content in discussions with REACH role models and youth volunteers.
14. To ensure programme is appropriate for developing today, tomorrows World Class Leaders
15. To identify and agree workshop programmes for world class events

The following standards apply to this post -
1. Criminal Convictions Checking Procedure
This position gives the post holder access to children and / or young people and will therefore be required to disclose details of any criminal convictions, including spent, bind-over orders and cautions. In accordance with the SMA Child Protection Policy and procedure a police check will be carried out and in taking up this position you are in agreement for the organisation to carry out this necessary check
2. Customer Focus Duties are performed to ensure the best possible outcome for the customer, especially young people who must be treated with respect and listened to.
3. Equalities Performance and conduct promote equality of opportunity and eliminate discrimination on any basis related to an individual’s profile.
4. Personal Development Learning and development is undertaken so that duties are delivered more effectively and to prepare for change, this will include mandatory training, for example in equalities & diversity, Child Protection as determined by the organisation.
5. Decision Making Decisions are taken within the organisations rules and any legal constraints to achieve organisational objectives, based on the best possible information that it is reasonable for the employee to obtain.
6. Organisational Codes of Conduct Duties are undertaken within SMAs’ Code of Conduct and other professional or organisational codes, which set standards of behaviour.
7. Risk Management Risks to service delivery, internal systems and their management will be considered and challenged. The consequences of actions will be thought through and informed judgements made.
8. Legal and Constitutional Frameworks Proper regard for statutory and other legislative requirements must be made in planning and delivering services. The organisations memorandum and objectives must be followed especially with regard to decision-making.
8. Business & Performance Planning Through proper business planning, there will be clarity on what the Service aims to achieve and the resources required.
9. Special Conditions of Service
The postholder will be expected to occasionally work outside normal office hours, including attendance at evening meetings.
